Primary stainless steel producers have asked the government to impose anti -dumping duty to safeguard the national industry of an increase in indiscriminate imports, especially in the light of the war of global commercial rates ongoing.

Currently, India raises only a basic customs duty or 7.5 percent in stainless steel imports.

However, the national industry has expressed that China can flood the Indian market with an excess of production, especially since the United States has erected tariff barriers to stop such imports.

India has an annual demand or 4.5 million tons, or that approximately 1-1.5 TM are through imports from China and Vietnam. India has a stainless steel production capacity or 7.5 million tons per year and operates with a capacity use of 60 percent due to cheap imports.

The War of Commercial Rates between the United States and China has unstable the global economy and without large markets to export, China will try to throw stainless steel in India which economy of faster growth worldwide, said a company Steel Fany Executi ‘Fasttes Steel’ on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the Government had imposed a provisional safeguard duty of 12 percent for 200 days in certain steel products to curb increased imports, particularly China. The duty aims to protect the national steel industry from unfair competition and possible “spills” or steel products.

Training workforce

Being the largest stainless steel producer, Jindal Signless has been working to promote its use and provide training to the workforce through the stainless steel academy.

Vijay Sharma, director of Jindal Sculpe, said that the availability of the qualified workforce is a great challenge that the industry has faced and that the company is trying to overcome it by building an ecosystem through the stainless academy.

The company has been linked to eight engineering conferences to introduction courses on stainless steel. He has already trained more than 50,000 manufacturers.

Jindal Screage Inquey has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the governments of Haryana and Odisha to introduce courses on stainless steel in government polytechnics. It also provides security to absorb 50 percent of trained students.

Regarding the fear of increasing China, Sharma said the industry is only looking for a level game field at a time when demand in India has been constantly growing.
