The United States Department of Agriculture requires that states guarantee that illegal immigrants do not use food coupons.
The department wants the states to comply with the executive order of President Donald Trump as of February that seeks improved methods to verify that those in the country do not receive federal benefits, including the supplementary nutritional assistance program (SNAP).
The measure is to make to take energetic measures against fraud and serve as safeguarding because illegal immigrants can no longer use Snap’s benefits. Only citizens and some non -legal citizens can do it.
“We have already issued judgments in Minnesota and New York and Colorado, and we are starting,” said Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Fox News Digital in an interview.
“We are going to be extremely extremely aggressive. Now, I hope it acts as a D -Subsequent.”
The USDA is asking the states to verify social security numbers with a master archive of death and use the free systematic verification system of aliens for rights rights (save) provided by the National Security Department for non -citizens Tonstus, among others.
Rollins said it is “the president’s vision to ensure that we are the most efficient and effective with taxpayers’ dollars.”
“So, we believe we can reduce billions of fraud and save a lot of money to taxpayers,” he said.
John Walk, an interim deputy under Secretary of Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, wrote in a letter Thorsday the state agencies, explaining the existing law.
“By law, only the citizens of the United States and certain current foreigners of the law can receive SNAP benefits. The Law of Reconciliation of Personal Responsibility and the Occupational Opportunity of 1996 (Public Law 104-193) established that ‘foreigners within the nations. Snats is not and has never piled up illegal aliens,” Walk wrote.
Repression occurs when there is successful scrutiny about the eligibility of illegal immigrants for benefits, such as the California Medicaid program that allows people to be registered without considering their immigration state, even thought it was financed.
California Republicans have said that the eligibility of illegal immigrants in the program is responsible for their insolvency, Waseas Democratic governor Gavin Newsom said it is only a factor in a greater problem of health costs throughout the country.
“The federal government is now paying much more closely than ever in the United States is spending money,” Rollins said. “I am from Texas. Real I have a lot of confidence in the Texas system. Out of immigration, Snap has also faced the calls for reform in several states that no longer allow the purchase of “junk food.” The governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, recently asked the USDA to allow the State to buy the purchase of sweets and soft drinks with SNAP benefits, while adding roasted chicken to the list of avoidable options.
“President Trump and his administration have focused a laser on solving the epidemic of chronic diseases in the United States, and the reform of our food coupons program is a great place to begin,” Sanders said in a press release on April 15.
“Prohibit soft drinks and sweets of food coupons will eliminate some of the less healthy and processed foods and will encourage low -income arkansanes to eat better.”
