Former President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden arrived at Saint Peter’s Square in the city of Vatican on Saturday morning for Pope Francis’s funeral.
The 82 -year -old man, who with Pope Francis three times as vice president, clung to his wife and a priest while walking cautiously down the stairs to the seat area.
The Bidens are not sitting near President Donald Trump, since they are not current heads of state. Instead, they are sitting further back in the foreign dignitaries section.
Biden was the second Catholic novel to serve in the White House, behind John F. Kennedy.
As vice president, he directed the US delegation to the inauguration of Pope Francis in March 2013.
The two with a duration of the Pontiff’s visit to Washington DC when Francis went to a joint session of Congress and Biden sat behind the leader of the Catholic Church inside the Capitol.
Biden last with Pope Francis making a trip to Italy in June 2024 for the G7 summit.

The former commander in Chief paid tribute to Francis after his death on Monday.
“It was different from anyone who came before.
“Pope Francis will be remembered as one of the most consistent leaders of our time and I am better to have known him,” he continued.
“He made everyone feel welcome and seen by the Church,” he continued.
“He promoted equity and the end of poverty and suffering throughout the world. And above all, he was a Pope for everyone. He was the Pope of the people: a light of faith, hope and love,” said Biden.
