The defensive Tackle of the Hall of Fame Steve McMichael, who was diagnosed with AS in 2021, moved to Hospice care on Wednesday.
“Yes, Steve is being transferred to Hospice Care today,” said Betsy Shepherd, a spokeswoman for former Chicago Bears star, in response to an email he asks about his state.
McMichael played in the 1985 Bears Super Bowl championship team and was an All-Pro in 1985 and 1987. It was included in the Professional Soccer Hall of Fame last year. He played in a franchise record 191 consecutive games from 1981 to 1993 and Ricds in second place Richard Dent in the list of captures of all Bears’s time with 92 1/2. His last NFL season was with Green Bay in 1994.
He told Chicago Tribune in April 2021 that he was fighting with AS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, which causes loss of muscle control.
McMichael’s wife, Misty, told Fox 32 Chicago that Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox recommended the family that was transferred to Hospice Care. “He does not support his legs during the last two weeks and inside and outside the hospital,” he said.
