Acowboy-obsessed cardiologist who spent five years building an awe-inspiring glass property just outside of Jackson Hole, WY, has put the staggering “sculpture” home on the market for $60 million—having lived there for just two years.
Gerald Dorros, 83, assigned renowned local architect Wallace Cunningham to design and build the “immersive” dwelling back in 2018 after his former Wyoming home was decimated in a devastating fire in December 2017.
Dorros, who grew up obsessed with the Wild West and had dreams of becoming a cowboy, according to Bloomberg, turned that fantasy into a reality when he purchased a plot of land in 1997 in Wilson, WY, where he built a dream dwelling that then burned down.
Determined to hold on to his cowboy dreams, Dorros decided to rebuild, but this time opted to pull out all the stops in order to create something truly extraordinary—namely, a crescent-shaped, glass-walled home that is now on the market for the extraordinary price of $60 million.
Though the property’s price tag certainly affords it plenty of attention, as well as a spot on the top of the week’s most expensive homes list, its design garners ample interest, with the listing describing it as a “living sculpture, offering not just a dwelling but an immersive experience for its owners.”
Speaking to Bloomberg about his property, Dorros declined to reveal exactly how much the home had cost him to build, although he admitted that he gave Cunningham no budget, instead simply telling him to “just go for it,” while guiding his design with a few specific asks: “I said, ‘I want your best shot, I want it to be open, airy and modern without being stark and monastic.’”
And it seems that Dorros’ decision to list this property set something of a trend, with several other farms and ranches featuring on the most expensive homes list this week—including a 120-acre farm that sits just a few miles from his home and a 23,500-acre property in Montana.
10. South Park Loop Rd, Jackson, WY
Price: $33.5 million
Room to build: This extraordinary 120-acre plot is described as a “piece of Jackson Hole history,” having originally been owned and homesteaded by “early pioneers” Sylvester and Mary Wilson, who snapped up the land back in 1889.
Today, the land is still owned by members of the Wilson family, who have made multiple attempts to offload it in recent years, listing it first in July 2024—although they have held their ground with the asking price of $33.5 million every time it has been put on the market.
Currently, the property is being used for cattle farming and hay production; however, the listing notes that the land is ripe for development, explaining that it is an ideal location for multiple home sites.
9. 4400 Belfort Pl, Highland Park, TX
Price: $34.5 million
A Mediterranean-inspired mansion: Although this Spanish Revival-style mansion was only completed in 2024, it boasts a much more historical feel, thanks in large part to the many upscale materials that were used in its design.
Carved Calacatta marble fireplaces; vintage, Venetian hand-blown glass chandeliers; and wrought-iron pendants are just some of the interior design amenities scattered throughout the property, which was designed to resemble one of Highland Park’s iconic 1920s estates.
However, though the property boasts an Old World feel, there are a number of modern amenities that help it to stand out in the present day—from its backyard-facing, accordion-glass doors to the heated bathroom floors.
8. 845 Longboat Club Rd, Longboat Key, FL
Price: $35 million
Venetian masterpiece: Described in its listing as a “breathtaking tribute to the grandeur of Renaissance Venice,” this opulent property is one of the most striking abodes in the Sarasota area—and one of the priciest.
Known as “Serenissima,” which means “most serene” in Italian, the six-bedroom dwelling offers a staggering 19,300 square feet of living space and ample outdoor entertaining space on its 1.2-acre lot.
Much like the home’s exterior, its interior screams excess and opulence, offering an array of impressive amenities, including a 10-seat theater, a private sunroom, an infinity pool, and a grand salon that can house up to 100 guests at a time.
