Nadine Menéndez, 58, guilty of bribery and fraud related to the use of her husband’s influence on behalf of Egypt.

Nadine Menéndez, the wife of former United States senator, Bob Menéndez, has been convicted or acceptance of thousands of dollars or bribes in exchange for trying to use her husband’s influence to benefit Egyptian and New Jersey.

Nadine Menéndez, 58, was declared guilty on Monday of the 15 positions she faced, including bribery, fraud wiring honest services and conspiracy for an audience to act as a foreign agent. He will be sentenced by the American district judge Sidney Stein in Manhattan on June 12.

The conviction occurs after Bob Menéndez, a Democrat who represented New Jersey for 18 and a half years, was sentenced in January to 11 years in prison.

“Nadine Menéndez and Senator Menéndez were partners in the crime,” he said Monday after Manhattan’s verdict, US prosecutor Matthew Podolsky in a statement after the verdict.

“Together, Nadine Méndez and the senator placed their own interests and greed in front of the interests of citizens that the senator was chosen to serve.”

Outside the court, Menéndez, who had declared himself innocent, wore a pink mask while standing with his lawyer, Barry Coburn, who said he was “devastated by the verdict.”

“We fight hard and it hurts,” he said. “This is a very difficult day for us.”

Bob Menéndez, 71, resigned from the Senate the next month.

The evidence shown to the jurors on a three -week trial followed the timeline of the Torbellino romance between the couple that began in early 2018 and continued after criminal charges were presented in September 2023.

Nadine Menéndez had to be judged with her husband for her alleged role in her plan, but her trial was postponed after her lawyers said she needed treatment for breast cancer.

The prosecutors said that the New Jersey businessman, Wael Hana, organized meetings between the senator and the Egyptian officials, who pressed him to sign military aid.

In return, the businessman put Nadine Menéndez on the payroll of a company he controlled, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors also said that Hana and Nadine Menéndez reported requests and directives from Egyptian officials to the senator.

Hana was sentenced together with Bob Menséndez and sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Another defendant, businessman Fred Daibes, was also convicted and recovered a seven -year prison sentence. The prosecutors said Daibes wanted the senator to protect him from a criminal case he faced in New Jersey.

The couple also received a Mercedes-Benz from businessman José Uribe in exchange for Bob Menéndez using their influence to pressure the New Jersey Attorney’s Office to stop investigating some of Uribe’s associates, prosecutors said.

Menéndez was the first user senator in the history of the country who is guilty of acting as a foreign agent.
