We all know the heart routine: “Make sure your seats are vertically, the stored tray tables, the shadows of the windows are up, laptops are stored in the containers above and the electronic devices are configured in flight mode.”

Now, the first four are reasonable, right? Window tones must be active so that we can see if there is an emergency, such as fire. The tray tables must save and vertical position so that we can get out of line quickly. Laptops can become projectiles in an emergency, since seat rear pockets are not strong enough to contain a topic.

And mobile phones should be established in flight mode so that they cannot cause an emergency for the plane, right? Well, it depends on who you ask.

Navigation and communication of aviation are based on radio services, which has been coordinated to minimize interference since the 1920s.

Digital technology currently in use is much more advanced than some of the oldest analog technologies we use only 60 years ago. Research has shown that personal electronic devices can issue a signal within the same frequency band as communications and aircraft navigation systems, creating what is known as electromagnetic interference.

But in 1992, the Federal Aviation Authority of the USA and Boeing, in an independent study, investigated the use of electronic devices in the interference of the aircraft and did not find problems with computers or other personal electronic devices for flight raisins. (Removal and landings are considered the critical phases).

The Federal Communications Commission of the United States also began to create frequency band widths reserved for different uses, such as mobile phones and navigation and aircraft communications, so that they do not interfere with each other. Governments around the world developed the same strategies and policies for aviation prevention interference problems. In the EU, electronic devices have been allowed to remain since 2014.

Why, then, with the established global standard thesis, has the aviation industry followed prohibiting the use of mobile phones? One of the problems lies in something that you may not wait – floor Interference.

Wireless networks are connected by a series of towers; The networks could be overload if passengers flying on these land networks are using their phones. The number of passengers who flew in 2021 was more than 2.2 billion, and that is half of what were the numbers of 2019 pins. Wireless companies can have a point here.

Of course, when it comes to mobile networks, the greatest change in recent years is the movement towards a new standard. Current 5G wireless networks, desirable for their higher speed transfer, have fallen Conern for many within the aviation industry.

The radio frequency bandwidth is limited, but we are still trying to add more new devices. The aviation industry indicates that the 5G wireless network bandwidth spectrum is remarkable near the reserved aviation bandwidth spectrum, which can cause interference with navigation systems near airports that help land the plane.

The airport operators in Australia and the United States have expressed aviation security concerns linked to 5G deployment, however, it seems to have been implemented without such problems in the European Union. Anyway, it is prudent to limit the use of mobile phones in airplanes, while problems around 5G are solved.

Most airlines now provide customers with Wi-Fi services that are payments for use or free. With the new Wi-Fi technologies, passengers could theoretically use their mobile phones to make video calls with friends or clients in the fight.

On a recent flight, I talked to a cabin assistant and had his opinion on the flights of the telephone use. It would be an inconsensation for the cabin crew to wait for passengers to finish their call to ask them if they want any drink or something to eat, Sheed. In a plane with more than 200 passengers, the service in flight would take longer to complete if everyone made phone calls.

For me, the problem with the use of telephones in flight is more about the social experience of having more than 200 people on a plane, and all talk immediately. At a time when the disruptive behavior of the passenger, including the “aerial anger”, increasingly frequent, the use of the phone in flight is another trigger that changes the entire flight experience.

Disruptive behaviors acquire various forms, from non -compliance to safety requirements, such as using safety belts, verbal altercations with other passengers and cabin crew, and physical altercations with passengers and Typless aerial anger.

In conclusion, the use of flight phones currently does not harm the operating capacity of the aircraft. But cabin equipment may prefer not to delay when providing a service in flight to all passengers, they are many people to serve.

However, 5G technology is embeding the radio bandwidth of aircraft navigation systems; We will need more research to answer question 5G on interference with the aircraft navigation duration. Remember that when we discuss the two most critical phases of the flight, takeoffs are optional, but the landings are mandatory.
