The storage in the 161 main deposits of India decreased further this week to 35.5 percent of the capacity, with the level in three quarters below 50 percent, they showed data from the Central Water Commission (CWC).

According to the Department of Meteorology of India (IMD), 51 percent of the 715 districts in the country resorted poor or no rain between March 1 and April 24. The department has predicted the rain below the norm in April.

The storage in the 11 deposits in the northern region was filled to 23 percent of the capacity of 19,836 BCM to 4,709 BCM. The level in the Punjab lonely dam was 16 percent capacity. In Himachal and Rajasthan, the storage was 25.7 percent and 40.5 percent, respectively.

In the eastern region, the 27 deposits were filled at 31.3 percent or 6.78 BCM or the capacity of 21,655 BCM. Only Jharkhand, Meghalaya and Tripura had levels around or more than 50 percent. In Bihar and Mizoram, the storage was less than 20 percent.

Among the 50 deposits in the western region, the storage was 39.58 percent of the capacity of 37,357 BCM to 14,784 BCM. The level in Mahrashtra was 36.6 percent, and in Gujarat and Goa, it was 42.6 % and 47 percent, respectively.

The 28 deposits in the central region saw their submerged levels at 43.28 percent or 21,027 BCM or the capacity of 48,588 BCM. Except for Madhya Pradesh, where the storage was 48.9 percent, the level in the rest of the states was less than 40 percent.

In the 45 deposits of the southern region, the level was 31.88 percent of the capacity of 54,939 BCM to 17,517 BCM. Tamil Nadu continued to show off the best storage in the country with 65 percent, while Kerala (37.5 percent), the level was 30 percent in the rest of the states.
