HDFC Bank will allow access to clean and renewable energy solutions to approximately 1,000 villages throughout India by 2025 under its CSR initiative (Corporate Social Responsibility) ‘Parivartan’. A media statement said that this initiative will empower rural and semi -urban communities through solar infrastructure, consciousness and local associations.
Parivartan has installed more than 61,655 solar street lights in 22 states. Some solar projects include portable solar pumps for efficient irrigation, water supply systems with solar pipes and solar energy processing units that increase local economies.
The ‘Solar Shiksha’ initiative of HDFC Bank addresses the lack of awareness, processes and myths barriers that often prevent adoption. The program provides practical and education demonstrations, as well as information on government schemes and subsidies, he said.
Awareness workshops
Around 90 awareness workshops have been carried out in Goa, Karnataka, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. The program reaches schools, public hospitals, orphanages, agricultural groups and old age where solar energy can directly improve the quality of life, he said.
