Karnataka inks MoU with GAIL for 1 GW renewable energy project

The Karnataka government has signed a Mou with Gail (India) limited to establish approximately 1 GW of renewable energy (RE) energy capacity. The proposal investment for this initiative is RS 5,000 million rupees.

The MOU was signed by MB Patil, Minister of Development of Industries and Infrastructure, KJ George, Minister of Energy, and TD Rajegowda, president of the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (Kredl). Selvakumar S., main secretary, Department of Industries and Parishsh Chough Singh, Executive Director (SD & Renewables), Gail, signed the Walf Agreement of the State Government and Gail, respectively.

Minister MB Patil said: “Gail can initiate projects by acquiring farmers in a basic lease or we will facilitate the allocation of land through Kiadb. The necessary approvals, the registration and the concessions will be carried out quickly.”

In addition, he declared that the memorandum of understanding allows Gail to explore and develop a diversified portfolio of renewable energy, which includes solar solutions, solar, floating solar energy, wind energy, wind energy and roof storage. “Gail is also interested in acquiring adequate land plots within the solar parks in Karnataka to accelerate the implementation of the project under its dedicated capital expenses plan,” he added.

Minister Kj George commented that this association would strengthen Karnataka’s position as a green energy center while generating employment and promotes infrastructure development. He added that the Mou marks the beginning of a long -term collaboration between Gail and the Karnataka government to build a cleaner and greenish energy that contributes significantly to economic growth and the climate objectives of the State.

The minister also pointed out that the Pavada Solar Park is already producing 2,050 MW of energy annually, and local farmers are ready to provide 10,000 additional land acres for a similar project.
