Governing under MSPSupply demand balance

The Indian government has reiterated that it will obtain 100 percent of the TUR (Arhar or Pigeonpese) produced by farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) or ₹ 7.550 per quintal. Reiteration occurs when the center extended the acquisition timeline in Andhra Pradesh for a month for pulse harvest.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture said that the acquisition in MSP through the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Marketing of India LTD (NAFED) and the National Federation of Cooperative Consumers of India (NCCF) was in Progreso in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. A total amount of 3.92 Lakh tons or Tur has been acquired in these states, benefiting more than 2.56 Farmers LAKH.

Tur’s acquisition is also being carried out from pre-registrated farmers in the E-Samridhi portal of the Nafed and Esamyukti portal of NCCF. The Government undertakes to make an acquisition of 100 percent of Tur in MSP offered by farmers through Nafed and NCCF.

Governing under MSP

To reduce import dependence, the Government has approved the acquisition of Tur, Urad and Masur under the price support scheme (PSS) equivalent to 100 percent of the state production for the year of acquisition 2024-25. In the 2025 budget, it was announced that 100 percent of the production of Tur, Urad and Masur in the State will be acquired by central nafas and NCCF-to 2028-29, with the aim of self-sufficiency in the pulses.

Consequently, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hash Approved the acquisition or 13.22 Lakh tons or Tur for Kharif 2024-25. The minister also approved the extension of the acquisition period in Andhra Pradesh for 30 days beyond 90 days until May 22 in the interest of farmers, according to the statement.

Tur prices are governing below the MSP in all producing states. The modal price (the rate at the majority of operations) in several Mandis It is in the range of ₹ 6,200-7000 per quintal. Despite a lower harvest, the highest imports weigh the prices of the TUR. The Government has allowed Tur -free imports until March 31, 2026.

Supply demand balance

In the global market, Myanmar cited Tur prices (lemon type) to $ 825 per ton (cost and freight) last week for delivery in May. Thought prices fell to $ 5 last week, in general, they have increased by one percent in the last month. According to the Association of Myanmar seed merchants, beans, corn and sesame seeds, Tur is currently offered to $ 750-760 per ton for the same variety.

According to the second early estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture, the production of Tur, a harvest of the Kharif season, it is projected that it will be 3.51 million tons (MT) against 3.42 MT a year ago. Commerce expects at least one MT of Tur this year to be imported, while consumption is estimated at 3.81 TM. The final shares of this year is estimated at 0.31 TM compared to 0.28 last year.

Thought imports are pressing the prices of the pulses such as Tur, the center is trying to guarantee MSP for producers through their acquisition of PSS. Until now, Nafed has acquired more than four tons or Pules Lakh, including Tur.
