India infrastructure production grew by 3.8 percent year -on -year in March in a strong steel and cement production, showed government data on Monday.
Infrastructure production, which tracks the activity in eight sectors and constitutes 40 percent of the country’s industrial production, grew to 3.4 percent reviewed in February, compared to the initial estimate of 2.9 percent.
Cement production increased by 11.6 percent in March, compared to a revised increase of 10.8 percent in February, while steel production rose 7.1 percent against a revised advance of 6.9 percent one month earlier.
Fertilizer production grew by 8.8 percent compared to 10.2 percent in the previous month, while coal production gained 1.6 percent year -on -year compared to a 1.7 percent increase in February.
The generation of electricity increased 6.2 percent in March, against a revised increase of 3.6 percent in the previous month, while refined oil products grew 0.2 percent compared to a 0.8 percent growth the previous month.
Meanwhile, crude oil production fell 1.9 percent year -on -year in March, against a much more pronounced drop of 5.2 percent in February, while natural gas production decreased by 12.7 percent, compared to a 6 percent drop in February.
Infrastructure production increased 4.4 percent in fiscal year 2024-25.
