‘Govt will release unemployment data every month from May 15’

The Government will begin publishing the inemplexed data on the basic monthly beginning as of May 15, compared to Quarterly, a senior official said on Monday.

The data that will be published on May 15 will include figures for January, February and March, and from then on they will be launched every month, the official toll reporters here.

“During the first three months, we will launch the data on May 15. This is the first time we are doing it,” said the official of the Ministry of Statistics and implementation of the program.

India does not have a high frequency data collection and dissemination system at UMNEMPLEMENT, unlike other important economies. Until now, the Government had been providing data on the urban inefficient quarterly and combined rural and urban unemployment data annually.

The official explained that data collection is statistically robust and representative, and internal consistency verifications are being carried out for it.

The Government will comply with its guide and leave the private capital expenses data for the end of April, said the official.

As of next year, he will also launch the findings of a company survey in the service sector, said the official.

The Government is also working to get data on the informal sector captured in the annual survey of the unbuilt -up sector, in a quarterly base, said the official.

An official said that the Government has also decided to launch a periodic workforce survey (PLFS) for rural areas quarterly.

The data is the new oil, and it is necessary that the same be credible and timely, said the official, stating that Indian data are consultations to be robust, credible and transparent worldwide.
