Mumbai airport to increase parking bays, build common hangar for airlines

Mumbai International Airport Limited (Mial) plans to build a common hangar and a parking bay for airlines after the eviction of business aircraft from its facilities.

Additional parking will help meet traffic growth and meet the demand of several airlines that are eager to add new flights from Mumbai.

In a presentation to the airport’s economic regulatory authority, Mial said that there is a requirement of 155 parking lots against 114 that are currently greed for use. Disabled aircraft use fourteen parking lots and, therefore, cannot be actively used.

According to the change of Hangares (used by business jets), the airport plans to build six bays for airbus A320/Boeing 737 and fourteen bays for smaller airboprop planes and airplanes.

This is one of the projects in the Airport Master Plan that aims to increase passenger management capacity to 65 million annually. The sources say that these additional bays could be used for the night of parking aircraft. “The location is on the opposite side of the passenger terminals and that is a challenge,” said a source.

While Mial has cited security reasons and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation Observations for eviction notices, business aircraft owners are not convinced.

An Executive of General Aviation Company said that the cancellation of the business airplane parking allocation is unjustified and is being carried out without an adequate advisory process. Any change must also be made gradually, he said. As questions about the planned expansion of the General Aviation Terminal are also being asked as the parking lot of existing operators is removed.

“The relocation of the general aviation operators based in Mumbai at the Navi Mumbai International Airport must be carried out at the cost of the airport operator. If the parking lot is canceled in Mumbai without adequate arrangements, the general aviation will be severely neglected) Ristinators ristinators advanced in a letter to Aera on April 16.

The association is also looking for a parity in the positions between Mumbai and the next Navi Mumbai airport, which is scheduled for the inauguration in June. This will help minimize operational interruption and support the redistribution of flight operations between the two airports.

In his presentation, Mial has said that he proposes to add another 9893 square mets of gross floor area to the existing general aviation terminal. This is proposed due to the increase in Charter flight movements. The terminal will have an installation to handle international letters.
