In a healthcare system plagued by rising costs, long wait times, and provider shortages, one physician is betting on AI to restore access, equity, and speed to primary care—without charging a single cent.

Meet Dr. Adam Oskowitz, a U.S.-trained physician and tech entrepreneur, who just launched Doctronic, an AI-powered, no-cost medical consultation platform that’s already serving over 50,000 Americans every week. From cold symptoms and skin rashes to chronic care questions and medication education, Doctronic delivers instant clinical guidance, 24/7, through a free chat-based interface—no appointment required.

In just a few short months since its beta debut, the platform is being hailed as a potential game-changer for underserved patients, overwhelmed clinics, and overstretched providers. And for Dr. Oskowitz, it’s just the beginning.

What is Doctronic?

Doctronic is a HIPAA-compliant, AI-powered consultation tool designed to help users get evidence-based, medically sound advice in real time—whether they’re in a rural town with no doctor, uninsured in an urban center, or simply seeking a second opinion.

Accessible via mobile or desktop, users input their symptoms, questions, or concerns, and within seconds, Doctronic’s medical AI responds with:

  • A personalized assessment
  • Suggested next steps (home care, clinic visit, urgent attention)
  • Educational resources
  • Follow-up guidance or reminders

If a user’s issue is beyond AI’s scope, the platform seamlessly refers them to telehealth providers, local clinics, or emergency care, based on their ZIP code.

And unlike traditional telemedicine services, Doctronic is entirely free—no insurance, credit card, or app download required.

Who Is Dr. Adam Oskowitz?

A dual-trained physician in internal medicine and clinical informatics, Dr. Oskowitz has worked in both bustling ERs and rural outreach programs. Over the past decade, he witnessed firsthand how millions fall through the cracks—delaying care due to cost, fear, or lack of access.

But he also saw the promise of technology to triage, educate, and empower patients—especially when powered by large language models trained in clinical reasoning.

After years of experimentation with clinical decision support tools, he founded Doctronic with a clear goal: deliver frontline-quality medical guidance to anyone, anytime—for free.

“We have AI that can write novels, pass the bar exam, and analyze radiology scans,” said Oskowitz. “Why can’t it help a single mom in Nebraska decide if her child’s cough needs a doctor or just rest? Why should that cost her $100 or more?”

How It Works: Behind the AI Engine

Doctronic’s proprietary model is built on medical-grade large language models, fine-tuned by a team of board-certified physicians and data scientists. It’s trained on:

  • Clinical guidelines (CDC, WHO, USPSTF)
  • Peer-reviewed literature
  • Case-based learning modules
  • Real-world anonymized patient interactions

The AI is designed to mimic the triage thinking of an experienced clinician, focusing on pattern recognition, red flags, and patient reassurance—without overdiagnosing or overprescribing.

Importantly, the platform uses “explainable AI”, allowing users to see the reasoning behind answers and encouraging health literacy.

For example:

“Based on your child’s age, symptoms, and lack of fever, this cough is likely viral and may resolve with fluids and rest. However, if shortness of breath or wheezing develops, seek care within 24 hours.”

Scaling Fast—and Responsibly

Since its soft launch earlier this year, Doctronic has been expanding across all 50 states. Its weekly user base surpassed 50,000 by early June, with peak usage on Sundays and evenings—times when clinics are closed and ERs are overwhelmed.

Top use cases include:

  • Common symptoms (fever, cough, fatigue, rashes)
  • Medication interactions and side effects
  • Mental health support
  • Reproductive health questions
  • Chronic illness self-management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)

Dr. Oskowitz emphasizes that Doctronic is not a diagnosis tool, but a clinical guide and safety net—similar to the work nurses or triage staff do when helping patients navigate decisions.

“We’re not replacing doctors—we’re getting people to doctors faster, smarter, and more informed,” he explains.

Privacy and Trust

Doctronic does not store identifiable health data, doesn’t sell user information, and adheres to strict HIPAA protocols. All sessions are encrypted, and users are given control over their data.

The company also publishes regular transparency reports, including AI performance metrics and health equity audits to ensure the system performs fairly across age, race, gender, and geography.

Who Funds a Free Doctor?

The question many are asking: how does Doctronic make money?

So far, it doesn’t.

The platform is funded by a $12 million seed round, backed by mission-aligned investors including health equity funds, public health philanthropists, and tech-for-good accelerators. Their thesis: if Doctronic can prove its value in preventive care, triage, and early interventions, it could unlock value-based reimbursement, licensing deals, and public partnerships.

Future revenue plans may include:

  • Licensing the AI engine to nonprofit clinics, health insurers, and school systems
  • White-labeled tools for telehealth platforms
