Who cares if Taylor Swift is dating Travis Kelce, a star in the NFL? After the game on Sunday, everybody.

In everything Taylor Swift has become so newsworthy that her decision to spend the evening out with Sophie Turner—whose breakup from Joe Jonas, Swift’s ex—received its own invasion of Normandy-style media treatment—is reported on.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are a couple.
Of all, when it comes to Swift, her romantic life is what people seem to be most interested in. You have a better than average chance of getting a song written about you if you go out with her, but be careful what you wish for. Her most recent alleged relationship combines two things that the nation can’t get enough of: Taylor Swift, of course, and NFL football, creating the ideal media storm.

Travis Kelce, the outstanding tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, appears to be dating Swift, according to signs.

The pop icon attended the Chiefs’ home game on Sunday while cheering on Kelce’s mother, Donna, from a suite while sporting a red sweatshirt. After the game, Swift and Kelce delighted the crowd by leaving Arrowhead Stadium together and leaving in a convertible.
“Momma Kelce has had the best 2023 of anyone. She’s sitting next to Taylor Swift as both of her boys are playing in the Super Bowl, why? On X, formerly known as Twitter, @evanmlapointe posted writings. Wow, what a life.

Last week on the WIP Morning Show, Travis’ brother Jason Kelce, a superb center for the Philadelphia Eagles, addressed the relationship allegations.

The alleged romance has generated some amusing football coverage.

On September 17, Ian Eagle, a top-notch play-by-play announcer for CBS, presided over the Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game. Eagle yelled after Kelce received a touchdown pass, “Kelce finds a blank space for the score.”
Swift’s song “Blank Space” was purportedly inspired, at least in part, by allegations regarding her love life. This really is a never-ending cycle.

Rich Eisen of the NFL Network outdid Eagle by teasing Kelce’s injury comeback with a number of Swift song titles, including “All Too Well,” “Anti-Hero,” and others.

Travis Kelce tweeted, “Well played Rich…,” expressing his gratitude for the effort. Well done.”

Who is interested in Taylor Swift? You probably do.
So why should we be interested in Swift? For similar reasons that we care about Kelce, football, and sports in general, as well as debates about the greatest singer of all time or the greatest horror film ever made. In the end, none of these things have any bearing on us at all. However, getting worked up over them is a good, potentially harmless diversion from actual issues. Above all, it’s enjoyable.

Without a doubt, Swift is a business. It was more than just a pop-music tale when she took over communities on her extensive, record-breaking tour because of the economic consequences.

Because people care about them, whether you agree with it or not, it is the media’s responsibility to portray those issues. It’s not the sole or even the most crucial aspect of the work. However, it is also not unimportant.

Contrary to popular belief, coverage is not a zero-sum game. You can write about Swift dating rumors while also covering Merrick Garland’s hearing before a congressional committee. Yes, you must organize your resources by priority. And don’t compare analyzing Taylor Swift’s lyrics to the conflict in Ukraine.
